New Delhi, March 16, 2024: The Election Commission of India is today set to announce the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Here are some details on the upcoming polls:
There are a total of 96.8 crore registered voters eligible to vote in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
This includes 1.8 crore Indians who recently turned 18 and will be eligible to cast their vote for the first-time ever.
In 12 Indian states, there are more women voters than men.
There are 88.4 lakh voters are people with disabilities, and 48,000from the transgender community.
10.5 lakh polling stations will be set up to conduct the election.
1.5 crore polling officials will be deployed to manage these booths.
55 lakh electronic voting machines will be used in the polls.
The Election Commission of India has successfully conducted 17 general elections and 400 assembly polls.
The tenure of the present Lok Sabha ends on June 16 and a new House will have to be constituted before that. The tenure of Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha assemblies will also end in June.
