Bhopal, July 9: Madhya Pradesh ex-minister Raghavji, who has been accused of sexual abuse, has been arrested in Bhopal.
Raghavji had resigned as state finance minister on Friday after an obscene CD purportedly featuring him surfaced and his domestic help filed a police complaint alleging that he was being sexually exploited by the minister.
The 79-year-old, who was believed to be missing since the police filed an FIR on Sunday, was arrested from a relative’s flat. He filed an anticipatory bail plea on Monday and didn’t show up when the state assembly session
The delay in Raghavji’s arrest led to opposition allegations that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan was protecting him, but Mr Chauhan denied it. Opposition leader Ajay Singh said it took six hours to register the FIR and only then was Raghavji suspended from the BJP.
Sources close to Raghavji say the case against him is politically motivated and the man who accused him of sexual exploitation had quit a month ago.
