New Delhi: June 21, 2015: Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has come out of a new TV advertisement that highlights the steps taken by the Delhi government to bring down corruption.
At first the ad shows a middle-class housewife, fretting over daily expenses. And next, once Arvind Kejriwal forms the government in Delhi, all her worries are put to rest.
She is a happy woman now. The latest month’s electricity bill is far less than the previous ones. The Delhi’s autorickshaw drivers are so honest after AAP’s victory that they always turn the meter on.
However, the ad, which is meant to highlight AAP government’s achievement, has the social media cracking up with its ’sexists’ theme and is fast going viral.
The ad shows the wife doing all the household chores by herself while her husband sits in the couch, sipping tea, reading newspapers and watching TV the entire time.
The ad even has some Aam Aadmi Party supporters not very pleased.
"This ad is extremely funny. As AAP supporter, I feel embarrassed looking at it. These kind of antics make u guys look like BJP. Don’t underestimate the intelligence of Delhi’s voters," wrote Amrita Juhi.
"This ad is just plain embarrassing to most Aam Aadmi Party supporters. Its not only visually unappealing, but also drives home a point of one man show. Disgraceful," said Ajay Soin.
"This add has proved more that AAP=Arvind Alone Party," wrote Amrit Young Hung.
According to reports the new advertisement campaign is expected to run for a week and the slots have cost the state exchequer about Rs 1.5 crore.
