The head constable, identified as Raj Kumar Shukla, attempted to kill himself by consuming poison. Before taking the extreme step, Shukla alleged that the SHO of Raun police station in Bhind district forced him to clean a drain as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission

"The SHO asked me to clean a drain and when I refused, I was thrashed and a complaint against me was made to the district SP over phone. When I tried to present my side to the district SP on the phone, he announced that I have been attached to the police lines," the head constable alleged while talking to media before consuming poison.

DISTRICT POLICE DENIES CHARGES

The head constable was immediately rushed to Bhind district hospital where his condition was said to be critical. The hospital referred him to Gwalior where his condition is still reported to be critical.

The Bhind district police has, however, denied the incident as narrated by head constable Raj Kumar Shukla to the media before he attempted suicide.

The district police, however, accepted that Raun police had initiated a cleanliness drive as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission today. No one was forced to do anything as participation was voluntary, the police said.
