Madhya Pradesh woman sets her 5-month-old baby boy on fire, arrested for son’s murder

Bhopal, Dec 28, 2020:     A 27-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her five-month-old baby boy at Singrauli district in Madhya Pradesh.

The accused has been identified as Guddi Singh Gond, 27, a resident of Sukhar village of the district. She had allegedly killed her baby boy by setting him on fire, according to a Hindustan Times report.

According to the report, a police official from Chitrangi police station said the woman was "mentally unstable" and has confessed to the crime.

A investigating officer said the woman claimed that she didn’t know when she set her baby boy on fire.

The accused’s mother-in-law, who had filed a complaint in related to the incident, said her grandson was set on fire by Guddi as the baby boy was "crying a lot" in the house.

The police have now sent the body for postmortem.

Police said the accused, Guddhi, has three daughters and she started behaving different after she gave birth to her son -- the one who had set on fire and killed him. She was being treated by a "sorceror", police said.

Police are now probing if the sorceror was involved in the crime and if the woman had killed her baby boy for occult practice. Her family members suspect that she killed her son due to "occult practice", police said.
