ELEVEN competitors took part in the first Gulf Voice of Mangalore Konkani singing contest last night held at the Ramada Palace Hotel, Gudaibiya.
The event formed part of a regional contest being organised by the Kuwait-based Youth Recreation Club. Two winners will be selected from Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE and Oman to compete in the finale, taking place in Kuwait next Friday.
The Bahrain leg is being organised by the Karavali Konkans Association, in association with the hotel and was followed by a performance by 10 veteran Konkani singers and musicians.
The visiting artists included Wilfy and Meena Rebimbus, Melwin Peris, Joel, Joswin, Richard, Christopher, Theo, Melwyn and Leslie Rego, who all arrived from Dubai on Tuesday morning. The contest is being held along the lines of the popular Indian singing contest Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and reality TV show Indian idol - with winners in line for cash prizes.
