Maha Kumbh accident: At least 10 dead after jeep carrying devotees collides with bus

Uttar Pradesh, February 15, 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of a road accident in Prayagraj district and expressed condolences to the bereaved families after at least 10 people died when a Bolero carrying devotees from Chhattisgarh to Maha Kumbh collided with a bus.

The CM ordered the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and also directed the district administration officials to treat the injured properly. He wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.


Accident


Ten devotees were killed and 19 others injured when a jeep and a private bus, both packed with devotees collided head-on.

According to police sources, the incident happened near Manu Ka Pura area in the district on the Mirzapur-Prayagraj highway around midnight on Friday.

All the deceased were in the jeep who were on their way to Maha Kumbh from Korba in Chhattisgarh. The bus was carrying devotees who were on their way back home after taking holy dip at the Sangam.

Sources said that the collision was so powerful that gas cutters had to be used to extricate the bodies of the deceased from the badly mangled jeep.

Two deceased were identified, as Ishwari Prasad Jaiwal and Somenath, both residents of Korba, Chhattisgarh, police said, adding that efforts were on to identify the rest.

Senior officials had reached the spot and the injured were admitted to the hospital, police officials said.

Officials said that there was a jam on the highway after the mishap.
