Hubballi, Dec 23, 2017 : State BJP president B S Yeddyurappa has suggested the state government, based on the letter written by Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to him (Yeddyurappa), to seek interim relief from the Tribunal for diverting 7.56 tmcft of water from Mahadayi basin to Malaprabha river to meet the drinking water needs of the North Karnataka districts.

Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, Yeddyurappa said, "According to legal experts, Karnataka can get interim relief from the tribunal if a fresh application is filed as Goa chief minister is willing to share Mahadayi water on humanitarian grounds."

"Chief Minister Siddaramaiah says that the letter (by Parrikar) is a political gimmick, but he writes a letter to his Goan counterpart for talks on the basis of that letter itself. Congress is politicising the issue, though we honestly tried to find a solution. We have done what Congress could not do in 15 years, but Siddaramaiah is not ready to utilise the opportunity. Siddaramaiah, Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are behind Goa Congress chief Shantaram Naik’s statement opposing the amicable settlement to meet drinking water needs in North Karnataka region," Yeddyurappa said.

Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, said that Parrikar considered our plea despite the stiff opposition in Goa on sharing Mahadayi water to Karnataka.

Now, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should take steps to seek interim relief afresh, submitting Parrikar’s letter to the tribunal, and should convince the Congress leaders in Goa not to raise any objections, Shettar added.
