Maharastra, Aug 09, 2019 : The flood situation in Maharashtra, Assam, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Odhisha and West Bengal has aggravated.
The total number of deaths due to rain or flood- related incidents in Maharashtra has risen to 27, officials said on 7 August. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have continued rescue operations in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur and Sangli district on 9 August. Over two lakh persons have been evacuated to safer places due to the floods that have wreaked havoc in five districts of Western Maharashtra.
Fifteen people were rescued in Chattisgarh’s Bijapur district. In Uttarakhand, a woman and a child died in a cloudburst, which occurred in Padmalla and Faldiya Gaon village of Dewal block in Chamoli district on 9 August.
In Bihar, on the other hand, there were signs of improvement noticed since 4 August. The water level in four rivers had receded and no fresh casualty has been reported.
In Maharashtra’s Sangli district 12 rescue teams of Indian Navy were deployed, in addition to the teams already present in Kolhapur, on 9 August.
In Assam, the death toll has risen to 91, although the flood situation is noticed to have improved considerably since 6 August.
In Uttarakhand, about 10 houses in the Padmalla and Faldiya Gaon village of Dewal block were destroyed on 9 August.
In Odisha, incessant rains triggered flash floods leading to Railway authorities having to cancel and divert trains on 8 August.
According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rains are likely in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarata, Karnataka and Kerala over Friday and Saturday, PTI reported.
As of 11 am on 9 August, Sangli district in Maharashtra witnessed intense flooding.
