Mangalore Today News Network

Mumbai, Feb 11, 2021:     The Maharashtra government on Thursday extended Covid-19 guidelines for passengers arriving from Kerala, becoming the fifth state to come on Maharashtra’s ’mandatory RT-PCR test’ list. The guidelines come in the wake of the growing number of coronavirus cases in Kerala. Earlier, it had issued Covid-19 travel guidelines for people coming from Gujarat, Delhi-NCR, Goa and Rajasthan.

"In continuation with the November 23 order issued by the state government and in exercise of the powers conferred under section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, and the powers conferred under the disaster management act 2005, the undersigned in his capacity as chairperson, state executive committee, hereby issues orders to extend the SOP issued vide the above-mentioned order to all the passengers arriving in Maharashtra from the state of Kerala with immediate effect, after careful consideration of planning of containment areas and availability of health infrastructure for the strict implementation by the concerned authorities of all the departments in the state of Maharashtra," the state government said.

For those who are traveling through air, the order said the negative test report has to be obtained within 72 hours prior to the flights. If the passenger doesn’t have the report then he would be tested at the airports and would have to bear the cost of the tests.

The same rule would apply for rail passengers as well, and they too would need a negative report obtained 96 hours prior to the travel. Those who don’t show the report will be checked for temperature and if they display symptoms then they would have to undergo an antigen test and if positive would be admitted in a covid centre bearing the cost.

Those travelling by road would be compulsorily screened at the state borders, according to the new guidelines.

Meanwhile, on February 10, Maharashtra recorded new 3451 coronavirus cases. Out of these, Mumbai reported 558 new fresh Covid cases.
