Maharashtra to give 5% reservation to Muslims at schools, colleges

Mumbai, Feb 28, 2020:    The Uddhav Thackeray-led coalition government in Maharashtra has decided to provide 5% reservation to Muslims in all educational institutes in the state.

Announcing the decision on Friday, Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik said, "We will ensure that the legislation to this effect is passed soon."

The minister also assured the Maharashtra Legislative Council of taking "appropriate action" in this regard before beginning of admissions in schools.

Nawab Malik was responding to a question raised by Congress legislator Sharad Ranpise.
