Malviya defends his tweet, claims he copied breaking news

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Mar 28, 2018 : The BJP rushed a delegation to Election Commission (EC) on Tuesday to explain that its IT Cell chief Amit Malviya’s tweet on the Karnataka Legislative Assembly election dates was based on a news channel’s report and a state Congress office-bearer too had also tweeted about it.

The Congress described Malviya’s tweet as BJP becoming the "Super Election Commission" as they announce poll dates for Karnataka even before the Election Commission. Its chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala tweeted, "The credibility of EC is on test. Will EC now issue notice to BJP President Amit Shah and register an FIR against BJP IT Head for leaking EC’s confidential information?" The BJP delegation, led by Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, met Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat, who termed the leak as "very serious."

In a letter to the EC, Malviya explained that his "source of information" was a news break by an English news channel at 11.06 am and he tweeted about it at 11.08 am. He also claimed that a Karnataka Congress functionary also tweeted about the poll dates exactly at the same time.
