New Delhi, June 14, 2022: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday at his residence in Delhi.
Mamata Banerjee landed in the national capital on Tuesday for a meeting of non-BJP parties she has convened to formulate a joint strategy for the upcoming presidential poll. Presidential polls will be held on July 18 and the result will be declared on July 21.
Mamata Banerjee and Sharad Pawar discussed the upcoming presidential election during the meeting, as per a report by ANI.
Last week, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee wrote to 22 opposition leaders and chief ministers requesting them to attend the meeting on June 15 at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. Non-BJP parties, including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, have been requested to attend the meeting. NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who was touted to be in the presidential race, will also be attending the meeting.
In the letter, Mamata Banerjee said the presidential election provides the perfect opportunity for all progressive opposition parties to reconvene and deliberate on the future course of Indian politics when "the divisive force" is plaguing it.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president and Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren will attend the joint Opposition meet tomorrow, sources told India Today. He will reach Delhi in the evening.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will also attend the opposition meeting on Wednesday in the national capital.
The Communist Party of India (CPI) and Communist Party of India (Marxist) are set to attend the meeting tomorrow. Apart from this, DMK’s TR Baalu, Shiv Sena’s Subhash Desai, RLD’s Jayant Chaudhary, and Mehbooba Mufti have confirmed participation for the meeting.
