Surat, Dec 29, 2021: A man convicted in a case of rape and murder of a minor hurled a slipper at a judge in Gujarat’s Surat district court on Wednesday. The Surat court sentenced the 27-year-old man to life imprisonment "for the remainder of his natural life" in the case of rape and murder of a five-year-old girl.
The court also ordered to provide a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to family of the victim.
After the court of special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) judge PS Kala pronounced the sentence, convict Sujit Saket got enraged and hurled his slippers towards the judge.
However, the footwear did not hit the judge and fell near the witness box. The convict alleged that he was framed in the false case.
According to the prosecution, Sujit Saket is a Madhya Pradesh resident. He raped and murdered a girl on April 30. The victim was the daughter of a migrant labourer, a PTI report said.
He lured the girl promising to give her chocolate. He took the girl to an isolated place and raped her. Fearing that he might be caught, he strangulated the child to death.
He was subsequently booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at Hazira police station in Surat.
The court took note of 29 witnesses examined by the prosecution while delivering its verdict. The court also considered 53 documentary evidences before pronouncing the order, the PTI report said.
