Management guru C K Prahalad dead in Washington

New Delhi: Apr 17: Globally renowned management guru C K Prahalad passed away on Friday after a brief illness at a San Diego hospital, family sources said.

 

Prahalad, 69, is survived by his wife Gayatri and two children, Murali Krishna and Deepa. Born into a big family — he was one of nine children of his parents.


He was a Professor of Corporate Strategy at Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, and was well known for writing best sellers on management subjects.

India Inc condoles


Condoling his death, Indian industry paid rich tributes to the management professor. “We have lost an outstanding management guru and a visionary who was committed to contributing towards India’s growth and development,” CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee said.


“If there was a Nobel Prize for management then Prahalad would have won that for India,” TVS Capital Funds Director Gopal Srinivasan said. “Prahalad was passionate about India getting its rightful place in the comity of nations,” he added. “In Prahalad’s death India has lost one of its great sons,” Srinivasan remarked.Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said Prahalad was a management guru to global business practitioners. Former CII President Bharat Ram described Prahalad as a path breaker and out of box thinker.


Industrialist Jamshyd Godrej said Prahalad was one of few professors and thinkers of management who spent a lot of time in India and dedicated much of his research to innovation, environment and opportunities at the bottom of the pyramid.
