Washington, US, April 6, 2025: Tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets across major U.S. cities on Saturday in what became the largest wave of protests since President Donald Trump’s return to the White House. The nationwide demonstrations, under the banner of “Hands Off,” voiced strong opposition to the Republican president’s divisive policies.

Mass Protests Erupt Across U.S

Protests were held in Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Denver, and Florida, with many participants decrying Trump’s actions on civil liberties, government staffing cuts, and trade tariffs. Organizers said over 1,000 rallies were held across every congressional district, spearheaded by progressive groups including MoveOn and Women’s March.

In Washington D.C., thousands gathered at the National Mall, where speakers condemned the administration’s domestic and foreign policies. “We have about 100 people who have come down by bus and van from New Hampshire to protest against this outrageous administration,” said Diane Kolifrath, 64, a bike tour guide. “They’re gutting our government.”

In New York, crowds flooded central Manhattan, with many protesters expressing frustration over the current political climate. “I’m so angry, I’m so mad, all the time,” said Shaina Kesner, 43, a painter. “A bunch of privileged, white alleged rapists are controlling our country.”

Symbols of resistance were prominently displayed at protests around the country. In Los Angeles, a woman dressed as a character from the dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale held a flag reading, “Get out of my uterus,” referencing the administration’s anti-abortion stance. In Denver, a protester held a sign declaring, “No king for USA.”

The demonstrations also echoed beyond U.S. borders. In London, dual US-British citizen Liz Chamberlin called Trump’s economic policies “lunacy” and warned they could trigger a global recession. In Berlin, 70-year-old Susanne Fest said Trump had created “a constitutional crisis,” adding, “The guy is a lunatic.”

With protestors uniting across states and even continents, the scale of Saturday’s demonstrations underscored the growing resistance to the Trump administration’s agenda.
