Medical Analysis Rules Out Natural Causes, says FIR in Sunanda Pushkar Case

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Jan 09, 2015: The FIR explains the police’s reasons for filing a murder case, which are entirely based on a medical report submitted in December that allegedly said Ms Pushkar, 52, could not have died of natural causes.  It also states that Ms Pushkar was healthy and did not have serious medical conditions.

The report by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences reiterates the opinion that its doctors, who had conducted the postmortem, gave in September, NDTV has ascertained.

The police filed its case on Tuesday, but have not named any suspect. It has indicated that Mr Tharoor will be among those to be questioned. The murder case comes after months of speculation over whether Ms Pushkar committed suicide.

The FIR states that injuries found on Ms Pushkar did not contribute to her death and were caused by "blunt force". The police singled out "injury no 10", which in the medical report refers to a puncture mark on Ms Pushkar’s hand.

The police chief BB Bassi said Ms Pushkar died of poison that was given to her either orally or via an injection.

The FIR mentions that in the initial postmortem, it was suggested that the reason of death could have been an Alprax overdose. The latest medical opinion asserts it was poisoning.

The police interrogated Mr Tharoor’s domestic help today. The same man, the politician alleged in a letter to Mr Bassi in November, was beaten up by the police during his interrogation.

Mr Tharoor alleged in the note, which surfaced yesterday that the domestic help was pressured to confess that he had killed Ms Pushkar along with the politician. Mr Bassi has denied there was an attempt to frame Mr Tharoor.
