Srinagar, April 04: PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti was on Monday sworn in as the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Governor NN Vohra administered oath of office and secrecy to 56-year-old Mehbooba at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu at 11 am. She is the 13th chief minister of the state.
Although her elevation to J&K’s top job, succeeding her late father and political mentor Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was seen as an “expected progression” in the Peoples Democratic Party, this new phase of her political life has come with difficult challenges.
She headed an alliance with the BJP in more difficult circumstances than the PDP-BJP coalition government formed by her late father early last year.
