Malappuram, Dec 16, 2021: ‘Metroman’ E Sreedharan has quit active politics, less than a year after he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Sreedharan made the announcement on Thursday, December 16, in Malappuram, Kerala. He said that he had learnt a lesson from his loss in the Assembly elections held in April.
“I was never a politician,” he said as he announced his exit from active politics, adding, “Not being active in politics does not mean I am leaving politics behind.”
“I am 90 now. Pushing further into politics is dangerous. I don’t have any dream in politics now. I don’t need politics to serve my land. I already do that through three trusts,” Sreedharan said.
E Sreedharan lost the Palakkad seat to sitting MLA Shafi Parambil by 3,859 votes in the Assembly elections. The BJP-NDA, which fought the April 2 Assembly polls, fancying a win in at least 35 seats in Kerala, failed to retain even its lone seat of Nemom. All its major contestants, including ’Metroman’ Sreedharan and party state chief K Surendran, were defeated.
