Bengaluru, February 07, 2025: Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Friday rejected the ordinance that the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government wanted to promulgate to regulate microfinance.
The Governor cited several reasons for the rejection, including the fact that the punishment of 10 years & fine of Rs 5 lakhs is excessive.
He said "Existing laws could have been used by the police dept to control the situation" and "This ordinance is likely to have negative impact on microfinance and this will affect the poor."
