New Delhi, Mar 31, 2014: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed the Delhi Police to take action against former Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti for his midnight raid in Khirki Extension.
The NHRC has directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to probe Bharti’s role in a time-bound manner.
Delhi Police had registered an FIR against unknown persons following a complaint of harassment by some African women by a group shortly after Somnath Bharti accused the foreign nationals of indulging in drugs and prostitution.
The FIR was lodged at Malviya Nagar Police Station following a direction by a city court.
Television footage on news channels had shown Bharti asking police officers to conduct the raid, saying he had received complaints of drugs and prostitution racket in that area.
African women had alleged in their petition that they were subjected to a cavity search during their medical examination at AIIMS, which was a humiliating experience.
They also complained that the minister and his people had asked them in public to give urine samples.
