Minor Girl, sold four times by Father & Stepmother, Impregnated by fifth man

Belagavi , Jan 10, 2018 : A minor girl was sold by her father and stepmother four times in the guise of marriage. She is now pregnant with the child of a fifth man, who reportedly sexually assaulted her on pretext of marriage.

 

Currently, the 15-year-old girl, who belongs to Nipanal village of Raibag taluk, is under the care of Santvana Centre, Belagavi in Karnataka.

The police, on the basis of the complaint registered by the girl, have booked nine persons under POCSO Act.

In her complaint, she accused her father and stepmother of marrying her to Shivu Chenniga of Ghodageri, Hukkeri taluk when she was 12 years old. She added that within six months of marriage, she returned back to her house.

After a few months, she was married to a milkman in Kurani village. In this marriage, her parents received Rs 1 lakh from an agent. She returned home again after a few months and was married again to Belagavi-based Mallikarjun. and then again to 45-year-old Siddappa Jodamani of Ullagaddi Khanapur, Hukkeri taluk.

She also narrated how she fell in love with 25-year-old Basavaraj, who is a close-relative of her stepmother. Basavaraj, who was a cab driver, took her away in his car in September 2017 to Holenagalapur village, Bailhongal taluk and sexually assaulted her on assurance of marriage. But, after a few days, he threw her out.

A report in The Times of India quotes an official of the women and child welfare department as saying that the girl is fit mentally and physically and is being counselled. Meanwhile, the police is investigating the case.
