New Delhi, Aug 29, 2022: Days after resigning from Congress, Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Monday stepped up his attack on his Gandhis and said the grand old party had issue with him since the G-23 letter was written. The veteran politician said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an excuse, adding that he has been forced to leave his home.

"I was targetted for role in G-23. Only sycophants in Congress are targetting me," he said. Ghulam Nabi Azad is the fourth leader of the G-23 group to quit the party after Kapil Sibal, Jitin Prasada and Yoganand Shastri.

Taking a jibe at Rahul Gandhi’s hug to PM Modi in Parliament, Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "It’s not me who is entangled with Modi, it’s him."

"They never wanted anyone to write to them, question them... Several (Congress) meetings happened, but not even a single suggestion was taken," he was quoted by ANI as saying.

Azad, a Congress veteran who resigned from the party on August 26, is scheduled to reach Jammu on September 4. He has announced floating a new party beginning with Jammu and Kashmir where assembly polls are due.

"My respect for Sonia Gandhi is the same as 30 years back, respect for Rahul Gandhi is same as that befitting Indira Gandhi’s family, Rajiv-Sonia Gandhi’s son. Personally,I pray for his long life. We tried to make him a successful leader but he’s not interested," Ghulam Nabi Azad was quoted by ANI as saying.

"I didn’t sleep for 6 days before and after writing the letter (G23) because we gave blood for the party. People there today are useless...It’s saddening that Congress has such spokesmen who don’t even know about us," he added.

Azad also slammed Congress general secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh for his ’GNA DNA’s has been modified’ remark. "First he (Jairam Ramesh) should get his DNA checked that where he belongs and from which party, he should see in which party his DNA has been," he said.

"I have left the congress party but I have not given up on ideology. Congress party is sinking day-by-day. Congress mein anpadhon ki jamaat hai", especially those sitting for clerical work," he said.

When asked about his resignation, he said, "It was the tip of the iceberg. I can only pray for Congress, but Congress will not be cured by my prayers, for that medicine is needed. Congress needs specialist right now."

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla hit out at the Congress and said, "Ghulam Nabi Azad has articulated once again how Congress has been taken over by a bunch of Darbaris who abuse & humiliate anyone who puts Party above Parivar! They only want Ghulam, not Azad!"

Hitting back at Ghulam Nabi Azad over his criticism of the party leadership, Jai Ramramesh asked, "What’s he afraid of that he’s justifying his treachery every minute? He can be easily exposed but why stoop to his level?"

On Sunday, scores of leaders and activists, who resigned from the Congress following in Ghulam Nabi Azad’s footsteps, met under the leadership of former Jammu and Kashmir minister G M Saroori.

Azad, 73, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, ended his five-decade association with the Congress on Friday, terming it “comprehensively destroyed” and lashing out at Rahul Gandhi for “demolishing” its entire consultative mechanism.
