Modi stranded against BCCI; Bombay HC rejects plea

Mumbai, July 15: The Bombay High Court on Thursday rejected suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi’s plea to quash BCCI`s disciplinary proceedings against him. Fighting a lone battle, Modi’s petition seeking the removal of the three so called ‘biased’ BCCI officials who form the disciplinary committee was rejected but the court also asked BCCI to give him a fair trial.

The Bombay HC said, “BCCI disciplinary panel must keep his objections in mind.”

Modi has to attend the BCCI disciplinary meeting tomorrow and he seems to have no other option but to face the flak on his own.

Lawyers of Modi had requested the court to grant an early hearing on his petition against BCCI and the court fixed July 14. BCCI’s Disciplinary Committee had asked him to appear before the panel on July 16.

Modi had prayed that the court appointed a mutually acceptable and independent person or panel to consider his replies to the three show-cause notices issued to him by the Board alleging various irregularities in the conduct of the T20 League. However, the case was dismissed as the court deemed it unnecessary.

The suspension order was issued to Modi by the BCCI on April 25 following which he was slapped show-cause notices on April 26, May 6 and May 31.

As an interim relief, Modi urged the court to restrain BCCI from taking any further action against him.
