Mohan Yadav is next Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister

Bhopal, Dec 11, 2023: Mohan Yadav will be the next Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the BJP decided in a bombshell move today, capping days of suspense. 58-year-old Yadav, a three-time MLA from Ujjain, was part of his predecessor Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s cabinet.

 

Yadav will have two deputies - Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla; former Minister Narendra Singh Tomar who contested the state polls will be the Speaker.

A video from the BJP meeting shows former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan presenting Mohan Yadav with a bouquet and giving him his blessings.

CM-designate Mohan Yadav said, "I am a small worker of the party. I thank all of you, the state leadership and the central leadership. With your love and support, I will try to fulfil my responsibilities."

Yadav expressed his gratitude to the BJP leadership for the support. "I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, party President JP Nadda," Yadav said.

The announcement by the BJP ended the suspense over the Chief Minister’s identity days after the saffron party swept the state Assembly elections, winning 163 seats.

Outgoing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan proposed the name of Yadav for the top post at a meeting of the newly-elected legislators held in Bhopal in the presence of party’s central observers. Manohar Lal Khattar, who was one of the observers deputed by the party leadership, announced Mohan Yadav’s name as the next CM.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan congratulated Yadav and expressed confidence that he will take Madhya Pradesh to new heights of progress and development.

“Hearty congratulations to hard-working fellow Mohan Yadavji on being nominated as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh in the BJP Legislative Party meeting. I am confident that under the able guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, you will take Madhya Pradesh to new heights of progress and development and will create new records in the field of public welfare. Many congratulations and best wishes for this new responsibility!,” Chouhan said on X.

WHO IS MOHAN YADAV?

Mohan Yadav’s political career began with his first election as an MLA in 2013, and he was re-elected in the subsequent 2018 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly election.

Yadav’s influence within the state’s political landscape was further solidified when he took the oath as a cabinet minister on July 2, 2020, in the government led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Born on March 25, 1965, in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav has been associated with the BJP for many years. Besides his political endeavours, he is also known as a businessman.

In the recent 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly election, Mohan Yadav successfully defended his seat in the Ujjain South constituency, winning by a margin of 12,941 votes against Congress candidate Chetan Premnarayan Yadav. This victory marked his third consecutive term as an MLA, having secured 95,699 votes.
