Lucknow March, 23: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday accused the Congress party of being responsible for the growing corruption in the country, while pulling up his son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for failing to make his Cabinet ministers work.
The SP supremo’s comments came just days after the second biggest ally of the United Progressive Alliance-government, M Karunanidhi-led DMK, pulled out of the coalition over the Sri Lankan Tamils issue. The UPA is now hinging on the support of regional parties like Mulayam’s SP and the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party.
Mulayam, while warning Akhilesh that he may not be able to return to power if his image is tarnished, said senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader LK Advani personally complained to him about the UP governance, and that he completely trusts his words.
"I have been told that UP ministers are not working for the state. They are only involved in their personal work. Seniority will not do, ministers have to work. I am giving ministers 5 month of time. Advani called me personally and told me that corruption is rising in UP. He never lies and I trust him. I immediately told Akhilesh. If Akhilesh destroys his image, he is not going to come back in power again," the SP leader said, while addressing a rally in Lucknow.
