The Sai Darshan building at Damodar Park area of Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg of Ghatkopar West caved in like a pack of cards on Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday night, Maharahstra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the spot and reviewed the situation. "It is a very unfortunate incident," he said, adding that a probe has been ordered and the report would be submitted in a fortnight’s time.

"We will take strict action against those responsible," he assured after visiting the spot and meeting the victims and local residents.

In the wee hours of Wednesday, five more bodies were retrieved from the debris taking the toll to 17.

The owner of ground floor of Sai Darshan building, Shiv Sena leader Sunil Shitap, who undertook renovation to convert his hospital to guest house, has been booked by Parksite police station and has been detained.

Teams of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation, Mumbai Fire Brigade and NDRF are continuing with the operation as few more could be trapped.

So far 28 persons have been rescued from the debris.

Two firemen were also hospitalised - while conducting the rescue operations.
