Feb 02, 2016: At a time when fatalities involving potholes crowd our news feed, a heartrending story is emerging out of Mumbai.
After his 16-year-old son died in a bike accident, Dadabhai Bilhore of Andheri has taken up the task of filling potholes for the last two months. 46-year-old Bilhore’s son had died when he was riding pillion with his cousin and their bike hit a pothole on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli link road, the Mumbai Mirror reported.
The accident involving Dadabhai Bilhore’s son occurred reportedly because the road was entirely filled with water after rains and there was no sign on the road to warn the commuters. Following the accident, Prakash was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead. His cousin Ram had suffered a head injury but survived the accident.
Bilhore has been fighting for justice ever since but he decided to fill the empty potholes in the area to make sure that no other person meets the same fate as his son because of ‘ignorance and negligence’ of the municipal authorities.
