Murder at property dealer’s office in Rohini: Cop, friend shot dead, 2 arrested

New Delhi, Dec 12, 2016 : A 45-year-old Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and his woman friend were shot dead inside the office of a property dealer in Rohini district’s Shahbad Dairy area late Saturday, police said. Police have arrested two persons in connection with the case.

 

A neighbour spotted the bodies of Joginder Lakda, attached with the Delhi Police’s 1st Battalion, and his woman friend around 6.30 am when he stepped out of his house. He then informed the owner of the office, Balvinder Singh, who, in turn, alerted police. Lakda used to own the land on which the office stands.

”My husband spotted the bodies. Half of Lakda’s body was lying inside the office and half of it outside,” said Anita Devi, who lives in the neighbourhood.

“I did not know that there was another body inside the office. I only realised it when police arrived. Lakda was shot at five times and the woman, thrice,” said Singh.

M N Tiwari, DCP (Rohini), said, “Initially, we suspected it to be a case of a love affair gone wrong. After tracing Lakda’s call detail records, we found out that it stemmed from some monetary dispute.”

Police sources said as per CCTV footage recovered from the area, the two accused — who have been identified as Jeet Dahiya and Sandeep — had come in for a quick chat over tea with Lakda in the evening. They came back again around 10.30 pm in a car, shot Lakda multiple times and fled.

Dahiya and Sandeep were Lakda’s partners in a betting business that he used to run in northwest Delhi’s Adarsh Nagar area, police said.

During interrogation, the two accused told police that they had come to settle a monetary dispute with Lakda in the evening. After Lakda refused to budge, they had a heated argument with him. Later in the night, they came back with weapons and shot him dead, Tiwari said.

He added that they killed the woman, who often used to come to the office, because she had seen them shooting Lakda.

Police suspect the involvement of more people in the case.

Lakda, who is survived by his wife and three children, used to live in west Delhi’s Mundka. His wife is an assistant sub-inspector in the PM’s security unit.
