Muslim family from Dharwad performs Hindu rituals at Gokarna, targeted

Gokarna, Oct 9, 2023: In a rare instance, a Muslim family undertook Hindu rituals for their ancestors in Gokarna recently. However, the family faced adversity when a video of the ceremony went viral, resulting in unwarranted messages from individuals intent on tarnishing their reputation.

This family, engaged in the woodcarving business and residing in Dhaneshwari Nagar, Dharwad, conducted the rituals within the temple’s sacred hall on a Thursday. One of the family members, Shamshad, expressed their longstanding belief in Hindu customs and traditions. She revealed that they have a tradition of having birth kundalis prepared for their newborns and also adhere to Hindu astrology.

According to an anonymous priest, the family’s close Hindu friends from Gadag often accompany them to temples and other religious sites. The family’s visit to perform these rituals was prompted by the quest to find a suitable match for Shamshad’s brother.

Upon consulting an astrologer, the family learned that Shamshad’s grandfather, Hussain Saab, who had passed away several years ago, was not at peace. Following the astrologer’s advice, the family decided to perform ’Pind Daan’ for Hussain Saab in Gokarna, with the ceremony conducted by four priests.

Subramanya Chitragimath, one of the participating priests, emphasized that they conduct these rituals with a pure and satvik intent, offering their services to all communities and religions without discrimination. The temple welcomes people of all backgrounds, and there is no differentiation among devotees. Nevertheless, some individuals attempt to politicize the situation, causing distress to the family.
