These words of the Prime Minister ringing true, not only has demonetisation hit at the roots of the flourishing black-money economy, it has also dented terror funding.

Pakistan is known to pump in counterfeit currency especially Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes, in to Jammu and Kashmir to fund terror groups and even stone pelters. Since Nov 2016, the valley has witnessed a drastic decline in the number of stone pelting cases.

Figures suggest that between November 2015 and October 2016 there were 2,683 incidents of stone pelting while it registered a significant decline to 639 between November 2016 to October 2017.

The decision of demonetisation crippled the terror infrastructure in the state. Government has also been able to keep a check on havala transactions. Security and government agencies have launched a crackdown on separatists who get money from Pakistan through havala and support terrorism.

Many of the separatists have also been sent to jail and they face legal action. In the north east also, militants have been forced to look for escape ways across the border. Security agencies are taking strict action against them.

CRACKDOWN ON NAXALISM

The cash crunch has resulted in many naxalites either surrendering or getting killed by the security forces. Naxal attacks have also come down post demonetisation.

Between November 2015 and October 2016 there were total 1071 Naxal related incidents while the number of such incidents came down to just 831 between November 2016 and October 2017.

CRACKDOWN ON FAKE CURRENCY

Demonetization led to an instant end of the problem of fake currency. Fake notes had become so perfect that it was extremely difficult for the common man to make out the difference. Radical changes in design and the use of extra features has seriously impacted the fake note industry.

So all in all Demonetisation has hit terror groups at the heart of their operations. And Prime Minister Modi’s promise of ending terror funding is certain to become a reality soon.
