New Delhi, Aug 24, 2023: The 69th National Film Awards was announced today, August 24, in Delhi. While ’Kadaisi Vivasayi’ was chosen as the Best Tamil Film, ’777 Charlie’ was adjudged as the Best Kannada Film. ’Uppena’ and ’Home’ were chosen as the Best Telugu and Best Malayalam Films.
280 films from nearly 28 languages were submitted for the award ceremony. Films that were certified before December 31, 2021, were considered for the 69th National Film Awards.
ALL ABOUT ’KADAISI VIVASAYI’
Written, directed and produced by M Manikandan, ’Kadaisi Vivasayi’ is a story about an 85-year-old farmer, who fights it out with a property developer.
The film released in theatres on February 11, 2022. The film features late actor Nallandi played the lead role and Vijay Sethupathi and Yogi Babu were seen in supporting roles.
The film is now streaming on SonyLIV. Manikandan also handled the cinematography for the film.
ALL ABOUT ’777 CHARLIE’
Written and directed by K Kiranraj, ’777 Charlie’ features Rakshit Shetty and a dog named Charlie in lead roles. Sangeetha Sringer, Raj B Shetty, Danish Sait, Bobby SImha and Aniruddh Roy play supporting roles. ’777 Charlie’ follows the bonding between a lonely factor worker and a stray dog.
’777 Charlie’ became the fifth highest-grossing Kannada film of 2022. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Director Rojin Thomas’ ’Home’ is about a middle-aged man named Oliver Twist, played by Indrans. He tries to forge a bond with his sons through a smartphone. When he fails in that mission, he takes up other ways to bond with them. Sreenath Bhasi, Naslen K Fafoor, Deepa Thomas and Manju Pillai play supporting roles.
The film released on Amazon Prime Video on August 19 and won critical acclaim.
ALL ABOUT ’UPPENA’
Written and directed by Buchi Babu Sana, ’Uppena’ is a romantic drama starring Panja Vaisshnav Tej, Krithi Shetty and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles. The film released in theatres on February 12 and received positive reviews.
The film is about a fisherman, who falls in love with a zamindar’s daughter. Her father protects his daughter to safeguard his family’s honour.
