New Delhi, Feb 17, 2017: The recently appointed Apostolic Nuncio to India Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro has arrived in India/New Delhi, on February 16.
Archbishop Diquattro was received at the Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport on Feb 16 by the President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India Cardinal Baselios Cleemis, Syro-Malabar Major Archbishop Cardinal George Alencherry, Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi, CBCI Secretary General Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, Bishop Kuriakose Bharanikulangara of Faridabad, Bishop Jacob Mar Barnabas of Gurgaon and the officials from the Nunciature, Msgr Henryk M. Jagodzinski and Msgr Tuomo T. Vimpari.
This is the new Apostolic Nuncio’s first posting in an Asian Country. He has served mostly in the Secretariat of State, in Italy and in Latin American countries. Archbishop Diquattro had said that except for two short visits, one to Korea and another to Japan, he has not been to Asia.
Before coming to India, to acquaint himself with Indian culture the Nuncio visited colleges and religious communities in Rome where there were Indian priests and religious.
