Uttar Pradesh, Oct 12 2019: A newborn girl was buried alive near a cremation ground in Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
A family digging the grave for its stillborn daughter found a pitcher with a newly born girl buried approximately two feet under. She was barely breathing and was rushed to the district hospital in a critical condition.
The newborn is undergoing treatment for a lung infection and weighs only 1.1 kg. She is on oxygen support. According to the doctors, the child appears to be born prematurely,
Harishchandra Joshi, the SHO of local Subhashnagar police station said, "We are trying to identify the person who had buried the baby girl alive. We are checking the CCTV footage of the cremation ground and women constables have been deployed in civil dress to search for the parents in the area. An FIR would be registered soon."
Vaishali, the wife of Hitesh Kumar, had given birth to a stillborn child at a private hospital in Rampur Garden locality of the city.
According to a report in TOI, Hitesh and his family members took the stillborn baby to the cremation ground at Subhashnagar locality. When a labourer started digging the grave, his spade hit a pot. It was kept in a bag. When they took the bag out , they found a baby wrapped in a cloth. She was alive and crying.
At one point I thought that life my daughter had come alive. But the voice was actually coming from the pot. We couldn’t understand much and asked the guard to have a look at it. When the pot was opened, a baby girl was kept inside. I immediately called an ambulance and informed the police to ensure that her life was saved, said Hitesh.
The doctors in the hospital said that premature babies need less oxygen supply and the newborn must be receiving some oxygen through the pores in the soil.
Staff nurse Vimal Kumar, who is looking after the baby said, Babies with such condition can survive if they are kept safe from infection. If her body accepts the medicine and diet other than her mother’s milk then she would recover soon. We all are praying for her survival.
