Bengaluru, April 1, 2020: Nine people tested positive for covid-19 in Karnataka on Wednesday, taking the state’s total to 110, that includes three deaths and nine people who have fully recovered and since been discharged, according to the state health department.
The number of cases in Bengaluru went up to 48, that includes eight people who have since recovered and discharged, and one person who died.
However, the number of cases in neighbouring Mysuru continued to spike as three more people tested positive in the district taking its total to 19 so far.
Bengaluru and Mysuru are listed in the top 25 hotspots of the country and Chikkaballapura district with nine positive cases is also among the emerging hotspots, according to a report by the health and family welfare department, government of India.
Five districts including Bengaluru that have a higher number of positive cases and large numbers in home quarantine will be depicted as ‘red zones’, according to K.Sudharkar, the medical education minister.
“If a cluster has more number of positive covid people that will be a red zone," K.Sudhakar, medical education minister said on Wednesday.
Bengaluru Urban, Chikaballapura, Mysuru, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada will be identified as ‘red zones’ that may have more restrictions.
Bengaluru is among the top seven places in the country that has recorded over 30 positive cases of covid-19, according to a report by the centre on Wednesday.
The coastal district of Dakshina Kannada added one more case taking its total to nine.
Jawaid Akthar, additional chief secretary, health and family welfare department said that a total of 1500 people from the state had returned from the Tablighi Jamaat, a religious congregation in Delhi in early March.
