Bengaluru, Mar 06, 2018 : The Karnataka High Court on Monday rejected the Interlocutory Applications (IAs) filed by a rape victim and Lenin, a former disciple of self-styled godman Nithyananda.
The pleas had been filed against the criminal revision petition filed by Nithyananda and other accused challenging the rejection of the discharge application by a trial court in Ramanagara on February 19.
Nithyananda and his associates have moved the high court on the ground that there is no concrete material with the prosecution to frame charges against them and have asked the court to discharge them from the criminal proceedings.
The IAs were dismissed by Justice R B Budihal who stated that the victim and Lenin may assist the prosecution in the case and cannot be impleaded.
This came after Nithyananda’s counsel submitted that the IAs were filed to create hurdles in the trial.
A case under Sections 295 A (insulting religious belief), 420 (cheating), 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural sex), 506 (I) (criminal intimidation) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against Nithyananda in 2010.
He is out on bail now.
