New Delhi, Aug 30, 2022: No Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations can be held at Bengaluru’s Idgah Maidan on Wednesday as the Supreme Court has ordered status quo as of today.
The apex court said that the issue raised in the plea may be taken up in the high court and ordered status quo as of today with regards to the land in question, meaning the ground cannot be used for the festival.
A three-judge bench was hearing a plea by the Karnataka Waqf Board challenging the Karnataka High Court’s order which allowed the use of Idgah Maidan for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
On August 26, the high court had permitted the state government to consider and pass appropriate orders on the applications received by the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru seeking the use of Idgah Maidan at Chamarajpet.
