Bengaluru, Sep 1, 2024: On Saturday, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot deflated the ruling Congress party’s claims by stating that he does not have any pending files seeking sanction to prosecute Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and three former BJP ministers.
Recently, the Congress had intensified its criticism of Gehlot, accusing him of showing undue urgency in sanctioning the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah while delaying similar requests for Kumaraswamy, BJP’s Shashikala Jolle, Murugesh Nirani, and G. Janardhan Reddy. In response, all Congress lawmakers marched from Vidhana Soudha to Raj Bhavan to pressurize Gehlot.
“We requested the Governor to handle all prosecution sanction petitions equally. However, he claimed there are no files pending with him and that he has disposed of all of them. We will verify this information. Why is he making this claim? He might have asked for clarifications,” said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. When asked if the government was unaware that the files were not pending at Raj Bhavan, Shivakumar replied, “That’s what the Governor is stating. We will investigate further.”
According to a Right to Information (RTI) response obtained by social activist T.J. Abraham, who is pushing for Siddaramaiah’s prosecution in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam, Gehlot has already made a decision on the prosecution request for Jolle and has returned the files related to Kumaraswamy, Nirani, and Reddy.
