Omicron cases in India: Infection tally rises to 1,700; 510 patients in Maha so far

New Delhi, Jan 03, 2022: The total number of Omicron cases in India has risen to 1,700. Maharashtra has reported 510 cases so far while Delhi has reported 351 patients. A total of 639 Omicron patients have been discharged so far.

India on Monday reported 33,750 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, 22.5% higher than the previous day, Union Health Ministry data showed. This took the total caseload to 3,49,22,882. As many as 123 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total reported death count to 4,81,893.
The top five states that registered the maximum number of cases are Maharashtra with 11,877 cases, followed by West Bengal with 6,153 cases, Delhi with 3,194 cases, Kerala with 2,802 cases and Tamil Nadu with 1,594 cases.

A total of 75.9% of the new cases were reported from these five states, with Maharashtra responsible for 35.19% of the new cases. Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala, followed by Maharashtra with 9 daily deaths.

India’s recovery rate now stands at 98.2%.

A total of 10,846 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which took the total number of recoveries to 3,42,95,407 across the country. India’s active caseload now stands at 1,45,582. In the last 24 hours, active cases increased by 22,781.

On the vaccination front, India administered a total of 23,30,706 doses in the last 24 hours, which took the total tally of doses administered to 1,45,68,89,306.

A total of 8,78,990 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
