New Delhi, Nov 28, 2019: The senior advocate Rajeev Dhawan has sparked off a controversy by claiming that it is Hindus, not Muslims who the disturb peace. "Muslims have never disturbed the peace, only Hindus disturbed atmosphere," he said. He also blamed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for instigating riots.
Mr Dhawan was the lawyer of Sunni Waqf Board in the Ram Janmabhoomi case. After a prolonged legal tussle, the Supreme Court’s five-judge Constitution bench on November 9, 2019, pronounced the judgement that the Ram Temple must be built on the disputed 2.77 acre land. It also directed the Centre to allot a 5-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque at some other place within Ayodhya.
However, the veteran lawyer is clearly angry and unhappy. He lambasted the apex court for doing injustice to the Muslims and stated that unless SC reverses the injustice, Muslims won’t see justice.
This isn’t the first Mr Dhawan is in the eye of the storm. On the last day of the hearing on Ram Janmabhoomi case, he had furiously tore apart the papers and maps handed over to him by the Hindu Mahasabha in the court.
