Oscars 2023: PM Modi congratulates team ’RRR’, ’The Elephant Whisperers’ for Oscar wins

New Delhi, Mar 13, 2023: India is rejoicing right now! It a proud moment for all of us as we won not one but two trophies at the prestigious Oscars 2023. SS Rajamouli’s RRR song Naatu Naatu won the Best Original Song while Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers won Documentary short subject. PM Narendra Modi has now congratulated the two films.

 

PM Narendra Modi congratulated the RRR team on Twitter and wrote, "Exceptional! The popularity of ‘Naatu Naatu’ is global. It will be a song that will be remembered for years to come. Congratulations to @mmkeeravaani, @boselyricist and the entire team for this prestigious honour. India is elated and proud. #Oscars (sic)."

In another tweet, the PM wrote, "Congratulations to @EarthSpectrum, @guneetm and the entire team of ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ for this honour. Their work wonderfully highlights the importance of sustainable development and living in harmony with nature. #Oscars (sic)."

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin also congratulated RRR and The Elephant Whisperers. He wrote on Twitter, "#NaatuNaatu has created history by becoming the first Indian & Asian song to win the #Oscars. Congrats @mmkeeravaani garu, Chandrabose, Rahul Sipligunj & Kaala Bhairava, @ssrajamouli, @tarak9999, @AlwaysRamCharan and the whole team of #RRR for this stupendous achievement (sic)."

He further wrote, "Congrats to Kartiki Gonsalves & @guneetm on winning the #Oscar. No better news to wake up to than two women bringing the first ever Oscar for an Indian Production. The patient making & the moving story of #TheElephantWhisperers deserve all the praises & accolades it’s getting (sic)."

SS Rajamouli’s RRR song Naatu Naatu won the Best Original Song. Other nominees in the category included Applause (Tell It Like a Woman), Hold My Hand (Top Gun Maverick), Lift Me Up (Black Pather Wakanda Forever), and This is a Life (Everything Everywhere All at Once). RRR is a period drama that features Jr NTR and Ram Charan as the tribal leader Komaram Bheem, and the braveheart Alluri Sitarama Raju, respectively. The fictional saga celebrates their fight against the British empire.

Meanwhile, Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga’s The Elephant Whisperers won Documentary short subject Oscars. The other nominees were Haulout, How Do You Measure a Year?, The Martha Mitchell Effect, Stranger at the Gate. The Elephant Whisperers follows Bomman and Bellie, a couple in South India, who devote their lives to caring for an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu.
