Over 2,900 new coronavirus cases, 126 deaths in 24 hours: India’s tally nears 50,000

New Delhi, May 06, 2020: India’s tally of coronavirus cases in inching closer to the 50,000-mark with over 2,900 new Covid-19 infections and 126 fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours, ending Wednesday morning.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the total number of cases in India climbed to 49,391 on Wednesday. While the active cases stood at 33,154, as many as 14,182 people have either been discharged or have recovered, IndiaToday reported.

The death toll, meanwhile, has reached 1,694 after 126 deaths were reported in 24 hours, as per the latest data by the Health Ministry. One patient has migrated and the total number includes 111 foreign nationals.

On Tuesday monring, the death toll stood at 1,568 while the number of cases had reached 46,433.

The number of active cases stood at 32,138, while 12,726 people have recovered and one patient has migrated, it said.

According to the health ministry data updated on Wednesday morning, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country are from Maharashtra at 15,525 followed by Gujarat at 6,245, Delhi at 5,104, Tamil Nadu at 4,058, Rajasthan at 3,158, Madhya Pradesh at 3,049 and Uttar Pradesh at 2,880.

The number of coronavirus cases has gone up to 1,717 in Andhra Pradesh and 1,344 in West Bengal.

It has risen to 1,451 in Punjab, 1,096 in Telangana, 741 in Jammu and Kashmir, 671 in Karnataka, 548 in Haryana and 536 in Bihar.

Kerala has reported 502 coronavirus cases so far, while Odisha has 175 cases. A total of 125 people have been infected with the virus in Jharkhand and 111 in Chandigarh.

Uttarakhand has reported 61 cases, Chhattisgarh has 59 cases, Assam and Tripura has 43, Himachal Pradesh 42 and Ladakh has registered 41 cases each so far.

Thirty-three Covid-19 cases have been reported from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Meghalaya has reported 12, Puducherry nine, while Goa has seven cases of novel coronavirus. Manipur has two cases. Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have reported a case each.
