Kozhikode, Aug 22, 2022: At least 70 people were injured after a clash broke out at the venue of a music program at Kozhikode beach in Kerala on Sunday night. The incident happened after an uncontrollable crowd thronged the venue of the music concert which was organised by the Pain and Palliative Care unit of JDT Islam College to collect funds.
Students, police officers and locals were injured and have been admitted to different hospitals in the city for medical treatment. The venue could not accommodate the massive crowd, despite the fact that a large number of people tried to enter the venue, which had limited space for the spectators.
The public threw stones and sand at the police officers, leading to the clash. The police had to resort to lathi charges, following which the crowd scattered and ran away.
The crowd was also seen breaking the barricades and attempting to enter the venue, due to which many experienced difficulty in breathing and collapsed on the ground. Many top police officials had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Meanwhile, the police informed that permission was not granted to conduct the music program. Permission was given only to set up stalls as part of the Carnival.
Kozhikode beach is generally crowded on weekends. As part of the fundraiser, 555 The Rain Fest’ was conducted in the city for the last three days. The tickets were sold online as well as offline at the venue spot.
