Owing to threats, ban on drones, flying objects put in place in Mumbai till Dec 12

Mumbai, Nov 11, 2022: The Mumbai police has issued an order banning the use of drones, remote-controlled micro light aircraft, and other flying objects, till December 12 citing they may be used by terrorists or anti-national elements to attack VVIPs, endanger public life at large, and destroy public property and law and order.

As per the order issued by Sanjay Latkar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), no flying of drones, remote controlled micro-light aircrafts, paragliders, pare motors, hang gliders, hot air balloons, private helicopters, etc. shall be allowed in the jurisdiction of Brihanmumbai Police Commissionerate for the period of next 30 days. i.e. from November 13 to December 12.

According to the order, no activities of the above mentioned private flying objects will be allowed in the Brihanmumbai Police Commissionerate limits, except aerial surveillance by city police or by specific permission in writing by the deputy commissioner of police (operations).

The city police issued the order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and said any person contravening it shall be punishable under Indian Penal Code Section 188 (disobedience to an order lawfully promulgated by public servant).

According to the order, the use of private helicopters, para motors, hang gliders and hot air balloons is also banned.

According to the PTI news agency, the order period covers the anniversary of the deadly terror attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008, in which 166 people were killed.
