New Delhi, Dec 12, 2016 : Two weeks ago, Delhi Police had received information about Rohit Tandon, the owner of law firm, T&T, ‘hoarding cash’ inside his office in Greater Kailash Part 1, south Delhi.

The income tax department too claimed that it had evidence against Tandon’s alleged investment in properties across Delhi and abroad through shell companies.

The police then in association with the I-T department started working on the leads and raided Tandon’s office on Saturday night and recovered Rs 13.56 crore in cash.

A total of 15 personnel both from police’s crime branch and those from the I-T department took part in the raid.

It is suspected that Tandon was working as a consultant, facilitating exchange of money after demonetisation. “It is unlikely for someone to keep so much cash at one place. Either he was receiving payments from all his clients in cash, that he was hoarding instead of declaring or he was facilitating exchange of money. The investigation to identify the source of this unaccounted money is underway,” a police source said.

Police sources said Tandon’s cash godown was being guarded by just one security guard. They believe Tandon himself kept a close watch on his money and had linked the CCTV network of his office with his mobile phone and the feed from the control room used to get directly transmitted to his phone.

When the police team raided the godown on Saturday, he watched it live on his phone and then went underground, a police officer said.

The cash at his office on first floor, sources revealed, was stashed not only in almirahs, trunks and suitcases but in secret cabins and courier packets. “It appears Tandon was receiving cash even through courier. We spotted many such packets full of Rs 100 notes that we suspect came from across India and even Dubai. The source of the money is yet to be ascertained,” a senior police officer said.

Tandon is also the founder of Zeus Law Associates, which he set up around 2005 and exited around February 2014 to start T&T, leaving his brother-in-law Sunil Tyagi and partner Vivek Kohli in-charge.
