PM Modi’s cabinet likely to see changes next week

New Delhi, Jun 17, 2016: A minor reshuffle of the Union council of ministers is likely in the next few days, paving the way for entry of at least two ministers from Uttar Pradesh.

Reports suggest authorities have enquired with Rashtrapati Bhawan about the availability of President Pranab Mukherjee in the national capital between June 19 and 23, leading to speculation that changes in the team will be done during this period.

“The reshuffle in the Modi government will be followed by a reshuffle in the party,” a source said.

Apna Dal MP Anupriya Patel and Gorakhpur MP Yogi Adityanath from Uttar Pradesh are believed to be in contention for a ministerial berth. Sources claimed the other new faces to join the Modi government are from Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Assam.

Ajay Tamta and Bhagat Singh Koshyari are probables from Uttarakhand, while Rameshwar Teli and Raman Deka from Assam might fill the vacancy following Sarbananda Sonowal’s election as Assam chief minister.

BJP chief whip in the Lok Sabha Arjun Ram Meghwal is a probable from Rajasthan.

Minority affairs minister Najma Heptulla, 76, is believed to be on her way out, paving the way for promotion of her junior Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
