PM Modi slashed LPG prices succumbing to pressure from Karnataka model: DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru, Aug 30, 2023: After the Central government slashed LPG prices in the country by Rs 200 per cylinder, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was adopting the Karnataka model after succumbing to pressure from the Congress.

 

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, Shivakumar recalled the remarks made by PM Modi that Karnataka would go bankrupt if guarantee schemes announced by the Congress were implemented. “If so, why are they providing Rs 1,500 in Madhya Pradesh? Why was the gas cylinder price reduced by Rs 200?” he said. “The surveys conducted by the BJP leadership revealed to them that the people are favouring Congress due to the schemes introduced by us. The Karnataka model is being adopted by the PM.”

“The state government was providing Rs 2,000 as a package, which includes Rs 500 for LPG cylinders. Now, succumbing to the pressure created by us, PM Modi has slashed gas prices,” he added.

On the chargesheet released by the BJP against Congress as the latter completed 100 days in power, the Dy CM urged the opposition to prove any of the allegations made. Their misdeeds will be out in the open soon, he said, taking a dig at the BJP for failing to elect an opposition leader.

On the ongoing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over Cauvery water sharing, he said that he will travel to Delhi on Thursday to meet the legal team representing the state. “The Supreme Court will issue an order on September 1. Tamil Nadu had demanded 24,000 cusecs of water to be released. But, our legal team argued for our case and reduced the quantum of daily outflow to 5,000 cusecs,” he said.
