New Delhi, Nov 27, 2021: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an important meeting on the Covid-19 situation and vaccination status in India at 10.30 am on Saturday. The meeting will be attended by top officials.
India registered 8,318 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is 21.1 per cent lower than what was recorded on Friday morning. India’s cumulative caseload now stands at 3,45,63,749.
The five states which registered maximum number of cases in Saturday’s fresh tally are Kerala with 4,677 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu with 746 cases, West Bengal with 710 cases, Karnataka with 402 cases and Mizoram with 359 cases.
In the last 24 hours, India also reported 465 Covid deaths, taking the country’s Covid toll to 4,67,933.
At present, there are 1,07,019 active Covid-19 cases in India.
India administered 73,58,017 Covid vaccine doses in the last 24 hours. The total number of doses administered in India so far is 1,21,06,58,262.
On Friday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) designated SARS-CoV-2 variant B.1.1529 as a ‘variant of concern’. The new coronavirus variant, which has been detected in South Africa, Hong Kong, Israel and Botswana, has been named Omicron.
In a bid to contain the spread of the new variant, several nations have rushed to impose travel bans, especially for those coming from countries in southern Africa.
India, on Friday, announced that scheduled international passenger flights will resume from December 15 after 20 months of coronavirus-induced suspension. As per the government’s decision, airlines will be allowed to operate 50 per cent of their pre-Covid scheduled passenger flights between India and South Africa, Hong Kong and Botswana from December 15.
On Thursday, the government had asked all states and union territories to conduct rigorous screening and testing of all international travellers coming from or transiting through South Africa, Hong Kong and Botswana.
