PM On Delhi Metro Magenta Line’s First Ride, No Arvind Kejriwal

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Dec 25, 2017: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today launch Delhi Metro’s new line connecting south Delhi’s Kalkaji and Noida’s Botanical Garden. The 12.64-km section is called the Magenta Line. PM Modi will flag off the new metro from Noida and travel to Okhla Bird Sanctuary station. After the metro ride, he will address a public rally in Noida. The inauguration of the Magenta Line comes as the Aam Aadmi Party has criticised the Narendra Modi government for excluding Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from today’s launch event.

Tight security is in place along the metro route ahead of the launch by PM Modi.

The Special Protection Group, Provincial Armed Constabulary and paramilitary forces are in charge of the security. Aerial surveillance will be conducted with the help of helicopters, for which three helipads have been made at Botanical Garden.

Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Sunday criticised the Narendra Modi-led Central government for its "hatred" towards Arvind Kejriwal, terming the Delhi Chief Minister’s exclusion from the inauguration of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line their "cheap mentality".

After Delhi Metro fares were made more expensive in October by between 20 and 50 percent, the Delhi Metro lost three lakh commuters a day, a Right to Information (RTI) application revealed.

Ticket prices went up by Rs. 10 for almost every distance slab in October, just five months after another hike of up to 100 per cent.

Arvind Kejriwal has criticised the centre over the hike in metro fares. The Chief Minister said that recent metro fare hike has not benefited anyone.

Earlier this month, a driverless metro train being tested on the Magenta Line crashed through a wall. No one was hurt in the crash, which allegedly took place because the train’s brakes were disengaged.

Magenta Line is the third metro line to be inaugurated by PM Modi in 2017. He had earlier "dedicated the Kochi Metro to the nation in June, and the Hyderabad Metro in November," a press statement said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Noida on Saturday to review security and other arrangements ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, breaking the famous Noida ’jinx’, which has scared away his predecessors from visiting the state’s urban hub as it is widely believed that whoever visits Noida, loses power.

In a tweet on Sunday, PM Modi called Delhi-Metro Magenta line an example of "modernising urban transport".

The Botanical Garden Station has been developed as the Metro’s first-ever inter-change station outside Delhi. Once the entire corridor from Botanical Garden till Janakpuri West (38.23 km) is opened, commuters from Noida will be able to go to Gurgaon by changing trains at Hauz Khas.
