Mangalore Today News Network

Jammu, June 18, 2014: Pakistani troops fired at Indian positions along the border in Jammu region, provoking retaliatory firing by Indian border guards, an official said Wednesday.

armyPakistan Rangers "resorted to unprovoked firing" in Suchetgarh area in Samba district Tuesday afternoon, a Border Security Force (BSF) official told IANS here.

The BSF had Tuesday declined to comment on the violations of the 2003 India-Pakistan ceasefire in Kashmir.

"The firing by Pakistan Rangers started around noon and continued for 15 minutes," the officer said. "They used automatics and light weapons.

"Our troops responded with equal calibre weapons."

While the Indian Army guards the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan, the BSF is posted along the international border.
